TRUE STORIES

A HOMEOWNER SUCCESS STORY
By John Pelissier

In 1997, Evelyn Watts, then Evelyn Jefferson, became the homeowner of Amherst County Habitat for Humanity’s House #6. She was a certified nursing assistant and struggling with her budget. Evelyn got behind with her mortgage payments. That was a turning point. Evelyn worked hard and organized her finances. She has faithfully paid her mortgage ever since.

Meanwhile Evelyn has been pursuing her career in nursing; and became a practical nurse in 2004. She is now studying to become a registered nurse, a goal she will achieve in two years. Her daughter, Whitney, who is a high school senior this year, is planning to go to college.

Two years ago Evelyn married Roy Watts, who works at the Otter Creek Foundry in Lynchburg. Roy is a skilled carpenter and has added a large, beautiful deck to the house and built a storage shed. He also maintains a large, productive vegetable garden.

Congratulations to Evelyn and her family for those achievements!
