FOR EVERYONE:

Saturday was another busy day at house #26.

Billy Messemore and Sam Davis installed windows and exterior doors.

Sue Johnston and Victor Williams applied finishing touches to house wrap, wall sheathing, deadwood, and set nails in door trim.

Rod Loving and Russell Addison started the plumbing rough-in.

Becky Woody (jack of all trades) helped with the window and door installation, removed braces, and sawed holes for the porch rack. She also swept up behind everyone else.
(She wore her green hat this week.)

Cindy Messemore took photos.

Tracy Murry helped pour concrete footings and removed "right of ways" from exterior door openings.

Trudy Coles (homeowner), Joseph Liggon, Rhonda Perry, and James Coles, and Tracy Willoughby dug holes and mixed concrete (the hard way) and poured footing for the front porch.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

July 4, 2007 will not be a work day.

We will work on Saturday the 7th. Projects include porch framing, and continuing plumbing and electrical.

Regards,
George B.

Sun, 17 June 2007

FOR EVERYONE:

On June 9 volunteers began constructing and standing the exterior walls for house #26.  In addition to Trudy Cole's (home owner) family and friends, there were groups of volunteers from Amelon United Methodist Church and First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg.  It was possibly the hottest day so far this year but the walls went up. (See photo above left)

On June 13 the midweek crew finished the exterior walls and began building the interior walls.  (See photo above right as Sarah Gurtler removes shipping material from tub/shower unit.)

On June 16 Trudy's family (including her grandfather - see photo above) and individual volunteers finished the interior walls and installed double plate.  Volunteers included Luther Shimp, Sue Johnston, Sarah Gurtler, Larry McDaniel, Russell Addison, and Rod Loving.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

We are still looking for someone with a bush hog to cut grass on the lot.

On June 23 we will begin setting roof trusses at 8 AM.  We will need many hands to install sheathing on the roof beginning about 10 AM.  Our goal is to have the house under black paper by noon.

George B.

- Wayne Hall and Dick Keeney build piers.

Yesterday Luther Shimp was volunteer coordinator. Volunteers included Dick Keeney, Wayne Hall, Allison Banton, Russell Addison, and Rod Loving. Jean Camm brought sodas and snacks for a mid morning break.

This small but tenacious crew started the day by constructing and setting the girder and its supporting piers. It usually takes a minimum of nine people to lift the 48 foot girder into place but they did it with seven. Then they installed the floor joists. There were not enough volunteers to finish the floor system in one day.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
There will be a light work day on Wednesday, May 23. Jobs include site clean up and installing floor bridging.

There is no workday currently scheduled for Memorial Day weekend. If any individual or group would like to work on May 26 please contact me to make arrangements.

We still need someone with a heavy duty mower and trimmer to mow the grass.

George B.

Please make sure Belinda and Ryan see this email. They have been so good about inquiring about the project. Please let Luther Shimp know that we are working Saturday morning. He is addressed on this email but does not check his mail regularly.

Mon, 26 March 2007

FOR EVERYONE:

Saturday was a great day for the ground breaking on house #26. In addition to all the people that came for the ceremony, eight volunteers worked on getting  the footings ready for inspection. Russell Addison and Kenny Bumgarner installed dams for the steps while John Pelissier, Sarah Gurtler, and Wally Hanson moved a huge pile of gravel. First time volunteer Erica Franklin learned to use the builder's transit and shot grade for the foundation. Belinda and Jean Camm came prepared to trim back some briars and bushes.

Thanks to everyone who participated Saturday.

FOR KENNY BUMGARNER, RUSSELL ADDISON, AND ROD LOVING:

Footings passed inspection this afternoon. Tomorrow I will order concrete for Wednesday morning and get an estimated time to pour from the dispatcher. Can you be there to pour on Wednesday (28 March) morning?

FOR MIKE OGDEN:

Looks like we are finally moving. Are you available to help pour concrete on Wednesday (28 March)? Should take less than one hour once the truck arrives.
